Call to the citizens of Mozambique: Sign the petition asking Mozambique to ratify the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural rights.
Dear Madam or Sir,
The Constitution of Mozambique does not guarantee the rights to food, water and sanitation amongst others. It is therefore paramount that Mozambique ratifies the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural rights, an international treaty adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1966 which enshrines a set of rights in the field of work, of health, food, housing, education, social security, and others that contribute to the well-being of individuals and support them, including in the exercise of civil and political rights.
The Mozambican State is one of the 4 African States that have not ratified this international treaty. It is important that Mozambique ratifies this treaty to commit to the progressive realisation of all the rights recognised in this Covenant.
Following the project and joint report on economic, social and cultural rights published by AESA, Kulima, Human Dignity and IPAS Mozambique in October 2020, the Ministry of Justice of Mozambique has expressed its support to the ratification of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural rights.
Although, we have the support of the Ministry of Justice, this is not enough for this treaty to be ratified. Indeed, we need your support to make sure that our petition will be read and processed by the National Assembly of Mozambique (Artigo 85, Regimento Interno da Assembleia da República de Moçambique , 2001). For our voice to count, we need at least 2000 signatures from Mozambican citizens.
If you are a citizen of Mozambique, you have the power to act by signing our petition HERE. Demand your rights, act now, sign the petition!
Sincerely,
Human Dignity, Kulima, AESA, IPAS and AGENDA.
